BARRE — The Mass of Christian burial for Michael J. Keenan, of Academy Street, was celebrated Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. He died July 25, 2014, at the Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The Rev. Peter O’Leary, pastor of the church, was the celebrant and homilist; Lawrence Reilly was crucifer, altar server and led the prayer of the faithful.
Son Michael Keenan read from the Old and New Testament, as well as assisting his sisters, Mary Keenan, Cathy Couture and Christine Durkee, in bringing the gifts to the altar for Communion. Gladys Prindiville was Eucharistic minister.
Organist-singer Rosemary Badeau accompanied singers Ronald Routhier and Romeo Bilodeau in the hymns “How Great Thou Art,” “Be Still, My Soul,” “In the Garden” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” She also sang “Ave Maria” at Communion.
The bearers were his son Michael Keenan and longtime friends and co-workers Christopher Judd, Lawrence Pryor, Nicholas and Brent Whitcomb, and Bruce W. Judd. Burial was made in the Hope Cemetery, where the Rev. O’Leary read the committal prayers.
A time of fellowship, sharing of memories and luncheon followed at the Hilltop Restaurant in Barre Town.
The Rev. O’Leary also led the prayer vigil service on Tuesday evening at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre.
