BARRE TOWN — Lisette Louise Brassard, 84, formerly of Barre Town and Venice, Florida, went home to be with her St. Anne and Jesus on Friday, July 4, 2014, at Heaton Woods Assisted Living in Montpelier with her family at her bedside.
Lisette was born on June 11, 1930, in Barre. She was the daughter of Josephat and Yvette (Moreau) Scalabrini. She attended Sacred Heart in Newport, Vermont, for three years beginning in 1945, and then graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1948.
In 1950, Lisette married Fernand “Red” Lajeunesse in Barre. Following their marriage, they lived on Seminary Street in Barre, moving to East Barre in 1952. Together, they started Brookside Memorials in East Barre where they lived for many years while raising their family until they divorced.
On May 3, 1979, Lisette married Albert James “Jim” Brassard in Barre. Following their marriage, they lived in Barre Town for 20 years during which time she enjoyed her employment with Goodfellows Jewelers. They moved to Nokomis, Florida, where they had resided for the past 16 years.
Her memberships included St. Monica’s Church in Barre, where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, and Mount Carmel in Nokomis, Florida.
Lisette was a devoted wife, an amazing mom and a proud and loving grandmother.
Her family was the most important thing to her. She showed them and her friends the meaning of unconditional love. She especially enjoyed spending her time creating wonderful family gatherings and celebrations. She taught her family the importance of supporting and loving each other through good and bad times.
Lisette’s interests were fashion, decorating, entertaining, shuffleboard, horses, motorcycling and snowmobiling.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her six children, Gerry (Barbara) Lajeunesse, of Venice, Florida, Diane (Robert) Quinlan ,of Clayton, North Carolina, Donald (Peggy) Lajeunesse, of Websterville, Helen (Paul) Allen, Debra (Mark) Lewis and Bernie (Joanne) Lajeunesse, all of Barre, Vermont; and four stepchildren, Mark (Robin) Brassard, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Donna (Duane) Macphail, of North Palm Beach, Florida, Sandra (Greg) Rouleau and Steven (Lisa) Brassard, both of Barre.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Cat, Bob, Mark, Kevin, Gerry, Beth, Nicky, Chrissy, Brittany, Jodie, Erin, Danielle, Alex, Kasie, Jenna, as well as six step-grandchildren, Brandon, Erika, Neil, Nicole, Stephanie and Morgan, and 10 great-grandchildren, Keelan, Chloe, Sawyer, Chapin, Hattie, Elsie, Emily, Connor, Jahlani and Kaiya.
Also surviving are three sisters, Rita (Maurice) Bourcier, Denise (Ritchie Alice) Bixby, both of Connecticut, Claudette Johns, of Pennsylvania, and one brother, Donald (Pat) Scalabrini, of California; her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Genevieve Lister, of Clarksville, Maryland, Bernard Brassard, of Barre, Vermont, Lucille Wiedel, of Silver Springs, Maryland, Maurice and Louise Brassard, of Southwick, Massachusetts, Marie Claire Lopes, of Charlton, Massachusetts, Robert and Maureen Brassard, Louise Brassard, Pauline Brassard, all of Sarasota, Florida.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one very special grandson, Richard “Ricky” Nicolino, and one brother, Henry Scalabrini.
Lisette’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude to her loving friends at Heaton Woods Assisted Living in Montpelier for the excellent care and attention, especially the love shown to her during her stay with them.
Upon Lisette’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre on Thursday, July 10, 2014. at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow the Mass in St. Sylvester’s Cemetery in Lower Websterville.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be sent to St. Anne’s Shrine, PO Box 280, Isle La Motte, VT 05463; or Heaton Woods Flower Box Fund, 10 Heaton Woods St., Montpelier, VT 05602.
Arrangements are under the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vermont.
