    Green Up Day support

Every year Vermonters participate in Green Up Day. Why do we do that? After all, itís only for one day, and how much trash can people pick up in one day? Vermonters go out together one day a year to clean up our lovely state because we care about our state. We hope that people living in Vermont keep our state clean after Green Up Day. We donít want Green Up Day to be a one-day event. Itís more than one day.

It costs money to organize Green Up Day. I was disappointed to learn that Seventh Generation, Ben & Jerryís and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters all have withdrawn their charitable gifts. They have new criteria for charitable giving. I donít know what their new criteria are, but I do know that keeping our lovely state clean is one of my top priorities. How about you? I recommend that you speak to your local legislator and ask him/her to support Green Up Day. Perhaps the businesses that withdrew their support will reconsider. After all, it is their state, and a clean state attracts tourists who buy coffee and eat ice cream.
