• Driver in crash identified, still in intensive care

    BARRE TOWN — Police have identified the Williamstown man who was critically injured in a fiery crash Wednesday involving the car he was driving and a dump truck at the intersection of Route 63 and Miller Road Extension.

    According to police, Donald Brown was still in intensive care late Friday afternoon.

    Multiple witnesses told police Brown pulled off Miller Road Extension and into the path of the dump truck, which was loaded with stone and headed up Route 63 to Interstate 89.

    The truck, driven by Dan Cheney, of East Montpelier, burst into flames and was destroyed, though Cheney escaped injury. The accident shortly before 1 p.m. closed Route 63 and nearby Exit 6 of I-89 for four hours.
