• Police probing contractor fraud

    MIDDLESEX — Police in Vermont and New Hampshire are on the lookout for a man accused of swindling homeowners in both states.

    The Vermont State Police along with New Hampshire police are seeking information on a man who identifies himself as Roger Bernier, a contractor.

    Bernier is wanted in Vermont and New Hampshire on multiple charges of home improvement fraud.

    Police are warning the public that home improvement fraud is still going on.

    Police recommend you ask any company you are considering for work to supply references. In addition, police recommend asking whether the company has insurance and advises homeowners get a written contract with a proposed finish date. Keep a record of all money transactions, they also recommend.

    Anyone with information on Bernier is urged to call the local state police barracks.
