    woman in assault

BURLINGTON — Police say three passersby came to the rescue of a woman who was being assaulted on a Burlington street corner this past weekend.

Police say the alleged assault occurred Saturday night at the intersection of College and Saint Paul Streets when 22-year-old Christopher Jerome tried to steal the woman’s purse.

The woman fought off her attacker before three men detained Jerome until police arrived.

    The woman was not injured.

Burlington Police Sgt. John Young said police are thankful to the people involved, but they urge members of the public to be careful when attempting to apprehend suspects.

Jerome was due in court Monday.
