    Project Independence is grateful

Nonstop laughter, rave reviews and a room filled to capacity was how the evening went at Project Independence on April 20, for its first stand-up comedy fundraiser.

Six hilarious and generous comedians donated time and talent to make our evening a smashing success. Thanks to host and comedian Carmen Lagala and fellow comedians Autumn Spencer, Nancy Schulz, Mike Thomas, Phil Davidson and Ben Orbison (who drove from New York City). We appreciate the kind and accommodating Barre Elks Club for lending us chairs. We thank volunteers Bill Gaidys Sr., his wife, Loretta, and son Bill, Paul Zampieri and Tom Wales for transporting chairs. We thank staff members Amanda Koledo and Tammy Mattote for making baked goods to sell, and thanks to Tammy and her mother, Peggy, for manning the baked goods table. We thank Linda Ingold and Sally DeCeccio for their fill-in help. A special thanks goes to Tom Wales, who set up his great sound system. Tom also worked to put Project Independence back together again. Director Dee Rollins brought enthusiasm and help with refreshments. Publicity and ticket sales were handled by Renee Lagala. She thanks the World for printing the lengthy press release in its entirety. Local businesses that sold tickets are Woodbury Mountain Toys, Angeleno’s and Next Chapter Bookstore, and we thank them for their support.

Another fundraiser for Project Independence happened at the Statehouse on Thursday. We are extremely grateful that Tom Koch suggested that Project Independence be the recipient of the proceeds of their “Legislative Cabaret.” We are very fortunate for this support from our generous community. Thanks to all who participated as audience members for both events.
