LYNDONVILLE — Willette Grayson “Billie” Stone passed away April 11, 2013, at Northeast Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, with her family by her side.

Born June 3, 1928, in Melrose, Mass., to Lawrence M. Foss Sr. and Orelie (Richard) Foss. She graduated from Wakefield (Mass.) High School and went on to work at MIT, where she met her future husband, 1st Lt. Earnest H. Stone Jr. (U.S. Marine Corps). They were married in 1948 in Wakefield.

“Billie” spent the next 26 years as a devoted Marine Corps wife and mother at many duty stations. She was an accomplished artist in many media including ceramics, wood block prints and dollhouse miniatures. She worked at Emgee Corp., making hand-made Christmas ornaments while stationed in Hawaii. She also ran The Stenciling Loft in Montpelier during the 1980s.

Willette will be missed very much by the many friends she knew in her lifetime. She was “a really nice lady,” as many have described her.

She leaves behind sons Jeffrey Stone and wife Ruth Anne, of Middlesex, and William Grayson Stone, of Montpelier, Vt.; daughter Susan Grayson Stone, of Palo Alto, Calif.; grandsons Joshua Grayson Stone, of Middlesex, Zachary Grayson Stone, of Montpelier, and granddaughter Alexis Russell, of Palo Alto, Calif.; a brother, Lawrence Foss Jr., of Atkinson, N.H.; and sisters Nathalie Whipple, of Anderson, Calif., and Nanette Condon, of New Boston, N.H.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Earnest H. Stone (U.S. Marine Corps retired), in 1986, a brother, Richard Foss, of Reading, Mass., and a sister, Roseanne Senter, of Albuquerque, N.M.

    There are no services.

A memorial with friends and family will be held in August.
