MONTPELIER — The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is again offering grants to improve shooting ranges in the state.

The department estimates that up to $80,000 will be available for shooting clubs, sportsmen’s groups and government agencies involved in the operation of shooting ranges and archery ranges.

Eligible projects include the development of a shooting range; adding noise abatement structures, safety berms, shooting pads and stations; and road and parking lot improvements.

Grant recipients must provide 25 percent of the project funding. They also must provide at least 20 hours of public use per week when open and be available for hunter education courses.

The application deadline is May 15.
