Yes to GMO labeling
I am very concerned with the food I eat. Like putting good fuel into our cars, I want to put good nutrition into my body, food that gives me energy and good health. When I shop, I look for non GMO food items because I worry that GMO foods have not been carefully tested for possible effects on our health. In fact, there is currently no strict safety evaluation protocol like we have for drug testing. An example of my concern is that scientists have recently found that the insecticide in GMO corn is now showing up in our bloodstream and in umbilical cord blood of pregnant moms. What other effects are we experiencing from GMO foods that are not being tested? Labeling GMO foods would allow those of us who are concerned to be able to more easily select what foods we choose to purchase.
This week, Bill Lippert, chair of the House Judiciary Committee announced that H.112, a bill addressing GMO labeling, will be taken up by his committee before the end of the session.
Please let him and your legislators know that you support the labeling law as do over 6,000 Vermonters, 75 farms, 25 food producers, all 18 of Vermontís Food Coops and dozens of other organizations.
