MONTPELIER — The state capital recently was named the fourth best city in the country for beer lovers by the financial assistance website nerdwallet.com.

The site looked at the top 50 breweries in the country, according to the magazine Beer Advocate, and found they were clustered around four cities. Also on the list were San Diego, Calif., San Francisco and Portland, Ore.

“The breweries located near Montpelier make the Beer Advocate’s list,” the site reads. In fact, the No. 1 spot goes to the Heady Topper from The Alchemist in Waterbury, it says. Hill Farmstead Brewery has 11 different beers on the Beer Advocate list of the top 250 beers, and Lawson’s Finest Liquors is at No. 28 with its Double Sunshine IPA, the site says.
