staff report
MONTPELIER — A man found dead in Hubbard Park late Sunday morning was identified as Peter H. Fischer, 58, of Montpelier, city police Sgt. Neil Martel said Wednesday.
The death was not considered suspicious, and it was categorized as an “unattended, unwitnessed” death, Martel said. A final coroner’s report is pending, he said.
Hikers walking with dogs had discovered his body near the tower, Martel said, but officials determined he had not fallen.
He was wearing a winter jacket and hat as well as gloves.
Emergency responders found Fischer’s body in something between a seated and lying position, Martel said. His body was believed to have been there for a few hours, he said.
