EAST MONTPELIER — Voters in the five-town Washington Central Supervisory Union handily approved the $14.1 million budget proposed for U-32 Junior-Senior High School during daylong voting Tuesday.

The ballots cast in Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex and Worcester were commingled and counted after the polls closed in each community, but the results weren’t available until very late Tuesday night.

Voters approved the budget, which reflects a spending increase of just over $500,000, or about 3.7 percent, 1,137 to 781.

A companion request asking voters for permission to place any audited surplus money into a reserve account that can be spent at the discretion of the U-32 School Board passed by an even wider margin, 1,473 to 427.
