Barre Town voting starts slowlyMarch 05,2013
BARRE TOWN – In a town with no contested races Krista Metivier gets points for standing in the snow greeting voters as if her election to the Barre Town School Board depended on it.
“I need name recognition,” said Metivier.
Apparently Metivier’s, four-year-old son, Aiden, didn’t get the message.
“Vote for my momma,” he said greeting a potential voter without actually dropping his mother’s name.
Metivier’s son had time to work on his delivery because 90 minutes after the polls opened only 57 of the town’s 5,887 registered voters had cast ballots.
“I wish I could say: ‘We’re busy,’ but we’re not,” Town Clerk Donna Kelty said.
As has historically been the case, Town Meeting Day is an all-school affair in Barre Town. Municipal budgets and business is conducted during May elections.
Among the items on today’s ballot include the $10.8 million budget for Barre Town Middle and Elementary School and the $12.3 million budget for Spaulding High School.MORE IN This Just In
