A win-win for Vermont

With concern for future generations and their power needs, I oppose putting a moratorium on wind power in Vermont, an issue discussed on the Senate floor in the Statehouse. As we have become slaves to imported oil, we must look forward to the use of renewable energy, which is readily available to us in Vermont, namely wind, solar and small hydro. The development and use of local clean energy will keep our money here in Vermont and positively affect our economy.

Using just 4 percent of Vermont’s ridgelines, 25 percent of the state’s electrical needs could be met, which would offset 1.27 billion pounds of carbon dioxide annually. That is the equivalent of removing 111,000 automobiles from the highways. Vermont needs to move forward with the production of wind power to help our economy and reduce greenhouse gases for a win-win situation.

Please join me in urging your legislators to reject a moratorium and make Vermont more sustainable for those who will follow us in the future.
