The state has reached a settlement with two Canadian businessmen, who ran an online advertising company that their customers said billed them without authorization, the Vermont Attorney General's Office announced Tuesday.

John Bucci and Jeremie Arrobas allegedly used a Vermont address despite being located in Canada and failed to comply with the state's cancellation requirements for telephone sales.

Bucci, of Pierrefonds, Quebec, and Arrobas, of Montreal, agreed to pay $20,000 in civil penalties and costs to the state. Depending on their future income and assets, the two may also be required to pay up to an additional $90,000 each.
