$1,015,541 — $27,052, or 2.7 percent, more than this year's budget of $988,489.
$2,575,355 — $249,833, or 10.7 percent, more than this year's budget of $2,325,522. With special education reimbursements, the increase is 4.52 percent. Increases are due to staff salary and health insurance increases.
State law requires the vote to be divided because the district's spending per pupil last year was more than the statewide average and this year's proposed budget is greater than last year's budget adjusted for inflation.

U-32 High School budget
$14,101,074 — $506,862, or 3.73 percent, more than this year's budget of $13,594,212. Budget reflects a $140,389 reduction in the debt service payment on the school bond and $398,058 in increased costs associated with negotiated salaries and benefits for the faculty and staff at U-32 High School. Transportation costs are expected to climb by almost $37,000 and the budget includes funding for a paraeducator and several part-time positions.
The fate of the U-32 budget will be collectively decided by voters in Berlin, Calais, East Montpelier, Middlesex and Worcester.
Shall the town of Middlesex appropriate the sum of $26,800 for the support of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library?
Shall the voters of the town vote by Australian ballot to authorize any surplus funds that are available after the U-32 school district's books are audited later this year be placed in a reserve account that can be spent at the discretion of the U-32 school board?
Shall the voters instruct officials to approve a resolution expressing opposition to the transportation of tar sands oil through Vermont, require fuel vendors doing business with the town to provide information on the origins of the fuel that's sold, and phase out municipal fuel purchases that use tar sands?
The floor meeting will occur at 4:30 p.m. March 5 at Rumney Memorial School.
Middlesex residents will gather from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 5 at Rumney school to vote by Australian ballot.
A U-32 meeting will be held at 6 p.m. March 4 at U-32 in room 131 to provide information on the articles that will be voted on by Australian ballot at town meeting.
Two community informational meetings to provide information on the Rumney school articles will be held: one at 9 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Red Hen Baking Co. Bakery & Cafe on U.S. Route 2 and another at 6 p.m. March 4 at the Rumney Memorial School library.
