    Town budget

    $631,306 — $116,868, or 22.7 percent, more than this year’s budget of $514,438. An estimated $413,609.69 to come from income and $217,696.31 from local taxes. The budget for 2011 was $871,293.



    Highway budget

    $1,425,900 — $90,247, or 6.8 percent, more than this year’s budget of $1,335,653. An estimated $905,000 is to come from income and $520,900 from local taxes.



    School budget

    $3,637,061 — $2,075, or 0.06 percent, more than this year’s budget of $3,634,987.



    Special articles

    Shall the Cabot School Board be directed to close the Cabot High School, whereupon families of ninth through 12th graders would be given their own discretion for which school districts to attend? This vote will occur at the annual school meeting March 4.

    Shall the voters of the town authorize the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District to appropriate and expend a budget of $679,878? This question will occur by Australian ballot, and the amount is an increase of $37,128, or 5.8 percent, from the current year.

    Shall the voters of the town advise the Select Board to identify options, issues, costs and grant opportunities associated with improvements along Main Street and Vermont Route 215 in the village, potentially including sidewalks, traffic calming measures and streetscape enhancements? (Australian ballot)

    Shall the voters instruct officials to approve a resolution expressing opposition to the transportation of tar sands oil through Vermont, require fuel vendors doing business with the town to provide information on the origins of the fuel that’s sold, and phase out municipal fuel purchases that use tar sands?



    Contested races

    A four-way race for a one-year portion of a three-year Select Board seat is between John Cookson, Jeff Gabrielson, Frank Kampf and Tamara “Tamie” Marian.



    Meeting locations

    The town meeting will occur at 10 a.m. March 5 at the Cabot School gym to hold several issue-based votes by Australian ballot and elections. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 5.

    A meeting to discuss the town’s Australian ballot articles will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Willey Memorial Building Select Board meeting room.

    The Cabot School District meeting will occur at 6 p.m. March 4 at the Cabot School gym for elections. School articles will be voted on March 4 and 5.
