• Capital to create parking panel

    MONTPELIER — The City Council will create a parking committee to deal with questions like, “Should parking meters be inactive on Saturdays?”

    During a Wednesday meeting that lasted some five hours with multiple executive sessions, the council gave support for creating a committee after city officials spell out the purpose of the group.

    The council also heard from the Montpelier Community Fund board of directors, which was given the job of awarding some $118,000 to community organizations. Groups requested $133,667, and $108,850 was awarded.

    The executive sessions covered a firefighter request for further budget-related emails, the city’s strategy in regard to a district heat budget overrun and the annual review of City Manager William Fraser.
