BARRE — The Cabot teenager accused of repeatedly raping a young boy and a dog has been released from jail so he can live with his father in Hardwick.
Jay D. Deasy, 17, was in Washington County family court Thursday for a bail review hearing. He was being held on $80,000 bail, but Judge Thomas Devine decided Deasy could be released into the custody of his parents as long as he stays away from the boy and is under constant supervision of his parents, who were in the courtroom.
Deasy is accused of raping a 9-year-old boy 10 to 15 times over the past two years. The Vermont State Police affidavit also said Deasy admitted to repeatedly raping a female dog.
At the hearing, Deasy’s public defender, Maggie Vincent, said he has been diagnosed with an emotional delay where he functions more like a 12- or 13-year-old.
Because of Deasy’s age, he is applying for youthful offender status, which would spare him from the potential life sentence he currently faces.MORE IN This Just InBURLINGTON — A woman accused of giving drugs to a woman who overdosed and died and a man who...
