    Seems history has taught nothing

Mr. Stuart Lindberg, your letter dated Feb. 9 to the editor of this very left-leaning newspaper was so on the mark. Unfortunately, I fear you are like the “lone reed blowing in the wind.” Since this paper, more often than not, basically publishes articles and commentary that lean toward left thinking we are not given the opportunity to hear much about how this country is heading toward socialism. “Socialism” is a word nobody wants to use, referring to what is going on in this “Nation of Sheep.” However, if anyone is paying attention, like you are, it is becoming clearer that we are very slowly losing our freedoms; as you so well put it, “embracing the collectivist ideas” ... “for the good of society” that were the cornerstone of the Soviet Socialist Republic. You can see how this paper and most news media are supporting this trend. It is very frightening, to say the least.

What also bothers me is that those who don’t agree with these thoughts, e.g., the likes of Mr. Danziger, cartoonist, as well as many of the folks who lean to the left, find it necessary to call those with opposing views names and make fun of them. Shame on them. I just want you to know that there are probably many more people, like myself, that understand where you are coming from. Thank you for expressing it so well. I also would like to say thanks to all the other folks that have sent letters of this ilk to this paper. I, for one, am paying attention. I only hope that more and more people will pay attention to what is going on in this country and do what they can, where possible (the polls), to turn it around. If not, God help us all.
