Let’s all be for life
One of the best arguments against the death penalty is the fear, quite justified, that we will execute an innocent person. We would rather let guilty people live than participate in the death of an innocent.
I would hope the same feelings will lead us to reject the idea of physician-assisted suicide. Just consider the headlines in The Times Argus: “Advocates: Vt. health aid won’t be enough” and “In a merciless economy, being older is painful.” What pressure there will be on sick people, especially the elderly, to choose the “cheaper” alternative.
If just one person ends their life prematurely because of those pressures, then that is one too many.
Please let our society be for life.
