    BURLINGTON — The Rev. John W. Poulos passed peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare, where he had made his home since December 2012.

    Father John was born on Dec. 11, 1930, to Spero and Winifred Whiting Noushiopoulos in Montpelier. He was a graduate of Montpelier High School, received a Bachelor of Science in history at Yale and Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Master of Divinity degrees from the General Theological Seminary in New York City. The Rev. Poulos was an educator and pastoral counselor. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1960. Father John retired from Grace Episcopal Church in Trumbull, Conn., in June 2009, and was also a priest in Episcopal churches in New Jersey and Ohio.

    He is survived by his daughter, Mary Patricia Poulos, and stepdaughter Bonnie Kynoch, of Montpelier; brother Paul Poulos, of New Hampshire; sister Helen Cascio Pratt, of Cape Cod; grandchildren Alexander Tripp, of Seattle, and Rachel Tripp, of Montpelier; great-granddaughter Alexandra Ploof, of Montpelier; and many friends.

    Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington. The service of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1063 Prim Road, Colchester. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center.

    Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home. Donations may be made in the Rev. Poulos’ memory to the charity of one’s choice.
