GRANITEVILLE — Cassie T. MacLeod, age 86, of Toccoa, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at her residence.
Cassie T. MacLeod was born on June 23, 1926, to Addie (Creed) Tucker and Henry Roy Tucker, in Alapaha, Georgia. Cassie graduated from Tifton High School May 1943. She attended the Herrin School of Business in Tifton and was employed by E.L. Webb as his secretary until 1945.
On January 24, 1945, Mrs. MacLeod married Leslie John MacLeod, who was stationed in Moultrie, Georgia. In November 1945, they moved to Graniteville, Vermont, where they resided for many years. Mr. MacLeod preceded her in death on March 7, 1992, and in 1993, she moved to Toccoa, Georgia.
Mrs. MacLeod was a member of the Tifton, Georgia, First Baptist Church until she moved to Vermont where she joined the Graniteville Presbyterian Church where she was still a member at the time of her death. She was an adherent of the First United Methodist Church in Toccoa.
After raising their five children, she returned to work as a secretary in the Fish and Game Department of the State of Vermont. From there, she was employed as secretary to the executive assistants to two different governors (Governor Deane C. Davis and Governor Richard A. Snelling).
She also was secretary to the commissioner of economic development and retired in 1989 as secretary for the Vermont Industrial Development Authority.
She had a lifetime membership in Ruth Chapter #33 OES in Williamstown, Vermont. She loved music and particularly loved to sing. She was soloist at her Vermont home church and joined the Singing Saints when she moved to Toccoa. She also played the piano. She loved to knit, read and play golf.
With her affiliation with the First United Methodist Church in Toccoa, she was a member of the Friendship Club, Crusaders and Sunday School Rhoads Class.
Mrs. MacLeod is survived by four of her children: son John and his wife Susan of Graniteville, Vermont; three daughters, Alice Ennis and her husband Don of Graniteville, Margaret Perrin and her husband Allen of Toccoa, Georgia, and Carolyn Jayne Broggini and her husband Tino of South Barre, Vermont; and daughter-in-law Christine MacLeod of Cumming, Georgia. Her son, Roy, passed away on December 22, 2012. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Richard and Brian Perrin, Tracy Delude, Shelby Slomp, Jeremy MacLeod, Tony and Mathew Broggini. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren.
Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and after her cremation, she will be interred in the family plot in Wilson Cemetery, Barre, Vermont, to rest beside her husband.
