• GMP warning of phone scam
     | January 25,2013

Green Mountain Power warned customers Thursday that several attempts to scam its commercial customers over the phone have been reported.

The caller claims to be representing Green Mountain Power and asks customers to pay their account balance by releasing credit card information or paying with a money card or other payment mechanism.

The caller also states that the customers would have electric service disconnected if they did not comply.

GMP said it follows very clear processes when working with customers about paying their bills and advises that it would not demand credit card information or alternate payment for any purpose.

This is clearly a phone scam, GMP said.

Any customer receiving such a call should not provide the caller with personal information, including account or credit card numbers, and should contact Vermont State Police or their police departtment.
