Withdrawing my support
For many years I have been a supporter of VPIRG, with a modest monthly donation via credit card. But in view of its position opposing a moratorium on wind turbines in Vermont, I am withdrawing my support.
There is something phony about VPIRG’s strident new attitude, and I don’t pretend to know inside details of its shifting personnel or what elements and interests are motivating them.
Sure, I welcome “green” energy, but at what cost? The monstrous industrial scale on ridgelines of clusters of 430-foot towers, producing intolerable noise and health-threatening vibrations to residents and wildlife for miles around, is simply not compatible with the Vermont that citizens of this beautiful and peaceful state have created and hope to perpetuate.
Before these projects proliferate to our regret, it’s time to pause and rethink, so I am endorsing the moratorium proposed by Sens. Joe Benning and Bob Hartwell.
