BARRE — Roland Edward Cross, 68, of 16 Midway St., died on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1944, in Montpelier, the son of Albert Cross Sr. and Irene (Guyette) Cross.

    He attended Montpelier High School.

On July 11, 1981, he married Margaret Colbeth at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier.

After high school, Roland began working for the state of Vermont. There he worked for a number of different departments doing various jobs, before retiring after 30 years of public service. Presently he worked for the Montpelier Public Schools system as a crossing guard, and most recently for Barre Elementary School as a school bus rider for the preschoolers.

Roland loved to travel, especially trips to Wells Beach, Maine. He also enjoyed camping and shopping, mostly so he could visit and talk with the various people along his journey. His world was his grandchildren, whom he cherished more than anything.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Margaret Cross, of Barre; stepdaughters Lori Farnham, of Williamstown, and Jennifer Beams, of Plainfield; stepson Theodore Beams, of Barre; and grandchildren Edwin Farnham, James Farnham, Nicholas Farnham, Brittany Farnham, Ashley Butler, Dakota Beams, Jared Taylor and Daniel Taylor; siblings Lynda Colbeth and her husband, Richard, of Newbury, and Albert Cross Jr. and his companion, Sandra Thompson, of Barre.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
