MONTPELIER — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra will present its annual David M. Wilson Memorial Farmers’ Night Concert in the Statehouse House Chamber at 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The concert is free and open to the public, first come, first seated.

Chambers doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

Music Director Jaime Laredo and VSO principal oboist Nancy Dimock are soloists in J.S. Bach’s Concerto violin and oboe which begins the program. Next the orchestra features VSO bass trombonist Gabriel Langfur in a movement of Alan Hovhaness’ Symphony No. 34, scored for bass trombone and strings. The VSO Brass Quintet will play “Scherzo” by John Cheetham, and also a new piece from the Music Comp program, “Gibbous: A Study of the Moon for Brass Quintet” by Justin Gates, a senior at Missisquoi Valley Union High School. Two Tchaikovsky selections conclude the concert: Andante Cantabile, with Sharon Robinson on solo cello, and the first movement of Serenade for Strings.

The annual VSO concert is dedicated to the memory of David M. Wilson, a prominent attorney, public servant and VSO board chairman.
