MONTPELIER — Gov. Peter Shumlin’s former deputy chief of staff will be joining Jay Peak to work on a $600 million development in the Northeast Kingdom.

Alex MacLean has been hired by Jay Peak’s owners to lead the project’s external affairs and help with fundraising, including investor relations.

MacLean, of Peacham, will be focusing on the expansion at the Burke Mountain ski area and the redevelopment of downtown Newport.

She will start her new job on Jan. 21.

MacLean has worked with Shumlin for four years, managing his campaigns and serving as secretary of civil and military affairs before becoming deputy chief of staff.
