WILLISTON — Spencer McClelland “Mac” Wright, 87, of Williston, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
Born in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., on March 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Leverne and Eunice (Cottrell) Wright.
In his youth, Spencer enjoyed a sense of adventure and physically challenging himself. From mountain climbing, hiking, camping, sailing and racing bicycles, these activities carried with him throughout his life.
Later in life, Spencer visited Alaska on a motorcycle to once again gaze on Denali, a mountain that he climbed as a young man, along with joining several friends on a weeklong cattle drive fulfilling a desire to be a cowboy.
Spencer had lifelong intellectual curiosity that expanded beyond his education and his private practice as a psychologist. Following his retirement, Spencer continued to enjoy life in a variety of ways, as well as co-authored a book on professional ethics.
His friends and loved ones fondly remember his wonderful sense of humor, particularly his wild limericks written for friends and family on their birthdays and other important occasions.
Spencer is loved and missed by his partner for over 29 years, Joan Kaigle of Williston; his niece, Carol Hamilton of Wyckoff, N.J.; his nephew, Allen Northrop of Livermore, Calif.; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.
There will be a celebration of Spencer’s life at the Williston Woods Activity Center on March 3, 2013, from 12 to 3 p.m.
For those who wish, memorial gifts would be appreciated to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, PO Box 459, South Hero, VT 05486 (www.takumta.org); the Make a Wish Foundation of Vermont (www.vermont.wish.org); or to the Chittenden County Food Shelf (www.feedingchittenden.org).
