Summit School to host winter festival
MONTPELIER — The Montpelier-based Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture will present its third annual Winter Folk Music Festival Jan. 18-20, featuring live music, workshops and special events.
Headlining the festival are folk musicians Dirk Powell and Riley Baugus, two of the most respected traditional players in the nation. Contributors to the soundtrack of the film “Cold Mountain,” Powell and Baugus have recorded with Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Ralph Stanley, Linda Ronstadt and others.
Also performing at the festival are Cajun dancer and accordion player Corey Porsche, Swedish fiddler Anna Lindblad with Ryan Drickey, Ken Perlman and Jim Prendergast, Pete Sutherland, Jeremiah McLane, Sarah Blair and Mayfly.
There will be a “guitar pull” Friday night, numerous workshops each day, performances each evening, and a free screening of the film “Blues Houseparty” at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20. The film will be followed by a discussion led by Montpelier musician and educator Mark Greenberg.
Powell and Baugus, in addition to all of the other performers, will offer workshops.
Workshops are $20 each, and concerts are $15 or $20. A winter festival pass for adults is $100.
