Daniel P. Jantzen, chief operating officer (COO) at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (DH) in Lebanon, NH, has been named one of 100 Hospital and Health System COOs to Know by Becker’s Hospital Review, a bimonthly publication offering business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems.
Jantzen, a member of the DH management team since 1990, has served in a variety of financial positions, including vice president of finance and chief financial officer; he also has been a member of the executive teams of other hospitals and health systems.
Before joining DH, Jantzen was a senior manager in the audit department of KPMG Peat Marwick in Boston, MA, where his clients included Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Boston City Hospital, and Public Service Company of New Hampshire. Randy Odell has been elected president of the board of trustees. He was elected an incorporator in 1993 and a trustee in 1994. He owns the Odell Insurance Agency in Bradford, VT, and is a graduate of the University of Vermont.
Paul Perry, who was elected vice president of the board of trustees, has been an incorporator and trustee since 1998. Perry is a partner and the vice president of finance at Perry’s Oil Service, Inc. in Bradford, VT. He graduated from Bentley College in Waltham, MA.

Tatro, an instructor with more than 17 years of classroom experience including assessments for students with learning difficulties and behavioral challenges, joined the center’s customized instruction team.

Peter Stein, managing director of The Lyme Timber Company, is winner of the Land Trust Alliance’s Kingsbury Browne Conservation Leadership Award. Stein received the award for his vision and dedication to land conservation, which have resulted in extraordinary gains for the land trust movement.
Stein was also named to serve in the Kingsbury Browne Fellowship at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy for 2012-2013. In this role, he will engage in research, writing and mentoring with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a Cambridge, MA-based think-tank with a focus on land policy.
Both awards were presented at the Land Trust Alliance’s recent National Land Conservation Conference in Salt Lake City, UT. It is the largest annual gathering of professional and volunteer conservation leaders in the U.S.
Prior to joining The Lyme Timber Company, Stein was senior vice president of The Trust for Public Land. He lectures extensively at graduate schools and professional conferences on conservation investment schemes and strategies, and is a member of the boards of the National Alliance of Forestland Owners, the Forest History Society, and the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation.
In addition, he is a former board chair of the Land Trust Alliance; served as a founding commissioner of the Land Trust Accreditation Commission; and is a member of the advisory board of the Rose Smart Growth Real Estate Fund No. 1.
Stein earned a bachelor of arts degree with highest honors from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He was a Loeb Fellow, and received a certificate in Advanced Environmental Studies from Harvard University.

Anne Silberfarb has been elected to the board of directors of the Upper Valley Educators Institute.
Silberfarb started her career in education as a first-grade teacher. She worked as a learning-disabilities specialist for 25 years in Upper Valley schools as well as at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and participated in a research project at The Stern Center for Language and Learning.
She has served as chair of the boards of trustees of the United Way of the Upper Valley, the Montshire Museum of Science, the Hitchcock Foundation, Norwich Special Places, the Norwich Historical Society and the Vermont chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
She served as a founding board member and chair of the New Hampshire branch of the Orton Dyslexia Society (now called The International Dyslexia Association), and was a founding board member of Vital Communities and a past chair of the board of directors. Currently, she serves on the Norwich Planning Commission, the Norwich Historic Preservation Commission and the board of the Vermont Institute of Natural Science.
Silberfarb earned a bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and a Master of Arts degree as a Learning Disabilities Specialist from Goddard College.
Linda Smith-Blais has joined the orthopedic and sports practice at BE Fit Physical Therapy in Hanover, NH.
She has worked with manual techniques for 27 years, most recently at the outpatient practice she opened in Claremont, NH in 2004. Her techniques include exercise-based rehabilitation, with an emphasis on spine care, and the up-and-coming dry-needling techniques of rehabilitation.
Smith-Blais earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Vermont.
Mark Avery, owner and general manager of the Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, VT, has received the Borden E. Avery Innkeeper of the Year Award for the State of Vermont.
Avery assumed the responsibility of owning and operating the family-owned Lake Morey Resort, a year-round, full-service resort that is more than 100 years old, in 2008. The award was presented at the recent Vermont Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Gala.
Avery attended the University of Vermont, where he studied recreation management.
Thomas J. Minkler, president of the Clark-Mortenson Agency in Keene, NH, was installed as chairman-elect of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) at the association’s recent Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA.
As president of Clark-Mortenson, Minkler is responsible for the overall operation of three divisions in eight office locations, with 60 employees in New Hampshire and Vermont. He also oversees all activity associated with mergers and acquisitions, carrier relations, and sales. He has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry and is a designated certified insurance counselor.
Minkler is a past chairman of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New Hampshire, past New Hampshire director on the Big “I” board of directors, and past president of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents. He currently serves on IIABA’s finance committee and is a past chairman of the government affairs committee. He has served on various other Big “I” committees, including the professional liability committee and the agents advocacy fund.
Minkler is a frequent speaker for the insurance industry and has testified before the U.S. Congress on behalf of the Big “I” on a variety of topics. In 2007, Minkler received the highest IIABA government affairs award, the Sydney O. Smith National Legislative Award; in 2006, 2010 and 2012, he was recognized for his outstanding service to the insurance industry with a citation from the chairman of the IIABA.
