Gordon W. Durkee Sr. Rites
MARSHFIELD — The service celebrating the life of Gordon W. Durkee Sr., 76, of Marshfield, was held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Old Labor Hall in Barre. He died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at his home.
The Rev. Ralph W. Howe, pastor of the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre, led the service. Words of remembrance were offered by daughters Betty Durkee, Betsy Dutil and Becky Durkee and lifetime friend Lena Hart. The prerecorded songs “How Great Thou Art,” sung by Carrie Underwood, and “God Bless the USA,” sung by Lee Greenwood, were played by Caleb Martin.
Military honors were provided by the Vermont Army National Guard Honors Team. Members of the color guard were Sgt. Curtis, Sgt. Pasquale and Spc. Murray. Taps was played by Sgt. Tim Graves. Master Sgt. Dan Landry and Sgt. Tim Graves folded the flag, which was presented to Gordon’s wife, Connie Durkee, by Master Sgt. Landry.
The bearers were grandchildren Greg McAvoy, Geoff McAvoy, Glenn McAvoy, Debbie Durkee and Daniel Durkee; grandnephew, Jack Beauparlant; and day care family Shane Gochey and Michael Domey. The honorary bearers were day care family Kelly Gochey, Raven Gile, Megan Domey and Annika Booth.
Following the service, family and friends shared fellowship and a luncheon at the Labor Hall.
