BERLIN A Barre man is facing a charge of retail theft after he was detained by employees at a Berlin Mall department store this week.

According to Berlin police, Matthew Wiltse, 21, was stopped by personnel at J.C. Penney after he allegedly left the store without paying for roughly $135 worth of merchandise late Tuesday afternoon.

Police conducted a brief investigation that they said revealed Wiltse had stolen items from two other mall stores Wal-Mart and the Shoe Department.

Wiltse was cited to appear in the criminal court in Barre at a later date to answer to the charge.
