Wind energy is key

I saw some of the first snowflakes of the season on top of Lincoln Peak over the weekend and it got me excited about the ski season. It made me realize how our seasons are shifting so quickly. But I also thought of how we have to take responsibility of our energy future.

More wind projects across the state would decrease energy costs and increase our energy independence. By utilizing just 4 percent of Vermont’s ridgelines we could generate 25 percent of our electricity with wind power. We should do as much as possible as a community to help reach that goal. Small wind turbines such as the Bolton Ski Area and Burke Mountain have set great examples for other renewable projects all across the state, but we need wind projects of all scales to reach this goal.

With proper regulation we need to continue building new wind projects across the state and more importantly get the public involved. We need to encourage community discussions about wind energy and get Vermont to be part of the solution to our energy future.
