Thank you to The Times Argus for disclosing the activities of the Montpelier city councilors during meetings. I agree wholeheartedly with Councilman Weiss. There is no excuse for such behavior and no need for a policy. Councilors need to just grow up and leave the smartphones at the door. It is not necessary to be constantly attached to a phone. And if they have an opinion, they can air it in front of the public. If ashamed to air it in public, then it’s probably not appropriate to say in the first place.
I remember what happened in grade school when students passed notes to one another. They got read in front of the class and detention was in order. Are councilors still in grade school?
I, a member of the public, would like my city councilors to pay attention to the meeting. If so bored they need to pass notes then they can get off the council.
Put a box in the council meetings that says “Drop cellphones here.”
