I lost my home in Tropical Storm Irene. This was affordable housing for me for a home that I would fully own someday. Then, because of the affordable housing crisis in Vermont, I have had to rent an apartment that I’m paying approximately three times more a month for. I will never own this place, so it’s lots more money that is going out the window that will never be invested for the long-term for me and my family.
I believe that everyone should have a safe and affordable place to live. A person with a low income shouldn’t rely on government assistance for basic housing. A livable wage is a human right, as well as safe, affordable housing. This is why I’m a member of the Put People First campaign and why I will march in Montpelier on May 1. If you believe this, too, I hope you will join us.
