SHELBURNE — Police in Shelburne say a man has been accused of stealing antiques from homes of the recently deceased.

Charles Pickett, 35, was arrested this week after police found a number of antiques in his home in North Ferrisburgh and in the Champlain Valley Antique Center in Shelburne.

Among the targets was the home of the late Gwendolen Pearce. Items taken from her home in Hinesburg were recovered, her daughter said.

Senior Trooper Benjamin Katz said Thursday that police officers from Hinesburg and Williston, and state troopers from the Williston and New Haven barracks, have investigated several thefts in recent months.

The antiques store owner, Thomas Cross, was cited, accused of buying items from Pickett.
