• Burning bans in place
     | March 23,2012

BARRE — The risk of uncontrolled brush fires is extremely high because of very dry conditions and higher-than-normal temperatures, area fire officials warned Thursday.

Among many others, fire departments in Barre and East Montpelier have issued burn bans effective immediately in Barre City, East Montpelier and Calais. The state also has warned of very high risk and is urging no unnecessary burning.

The bans prohibit open burning and will remain in effect until further notice.
