BURLINGTON — A Barre man is facing federal drug charges after he was stopped on Interstate 91 and allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine.

The U.S. attorney’s office says 32-year-old Jonnathan Allen was arraigned Monday in federal court on an indictment charging him with possessing more than 28 grams of crack cocaine.

Prosecutors say Allen was stopped Feb. 20 while traveling north and state police found 128 grams of crack cocaine in his vehicle.

Allen was initially charged by state authorities in Windham County, but the state charges were dropped after a federal grand jury issued the indictment.

If convicted, Allen faces a minimum of five years in prison.

He could be sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Prosecutors asked that Allen be held pending trial.
