MONTPELIER — A driver who fled after his truck ran off Towne Hill Road and into someone’s lawn has been cited on a charge of driving under the influence, according to Montpelier police.

At 12:49 a.m. Thursday, a caller told police that a truck had ended up on a Towne Hill Road resident’s lawn.

The driver was identified as Richard W. Curtis, 23, of East Montpelier, and police said he ran away when officers arrived at the scene.

An officer found Curtis a short time later on Towne Hill Road.

A preliminary breath test indicated Curtis’ blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit to drive. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, but police said he refused to give a breath sample at the police station.

Curtis was cited to appear in court March 8 on the charge of driving under the influence with criminal refusal to provide a breath sample.
