BERLIN - Around noon, emergency personnel from around the region were responding to a helicopter crash near Edward F. Knapp Airport, off Comstock Road.
Initial reports indicate one person was killed . Investigators were being called in, and the scene was being secured. Black smoke could be seen from the scene. Within minutes, the crash site had been closed off and a tarp was covering the helicopter that one eyewitness described as a "very small aircraft."
Roads surrounding the scene were being closed off to traffic.
There are at least six different emergency services units at the scene. At this point, the fire has been extinguished and there is no more smoke at the site.
One witness who was working at a building adjacent to the field reported hearing a noise, looking over and seeing what appeared to be a helicopter plunge to the ground.
The Times Argus has a reporter on scene and will update as more information becomes available.
