PLAINFIELD – Northfield's Garrett Dukette fired a one-over par 72 to earn medalist honors and help the Marauders earn the top spot in Wednesday's boys golf Division III North Sectionals at The Country Club of Barre.

Dukette played in the second group for the Marauders and topped teammate Nick Gonneville's 77 as Northfield finished with a team score of 349.

Peoples Academy finished second with a score of 352 and Stowe was the final team to qualify for the Division III state championship next Wednesday at Middlebury with a 358.

Both Dukette and Gonneville shot 38 on the front nine, but Dukette's three straight birdies on 14, 15 and 16 boosted the senior past his teammate, shooting a 34 coming in.

"I didn't really get into trouble," Dukette said about his round. "I was good off the tee and kept it simple. I didn't really make a putt until 14 then I kept rolling them in."

Dukette also edged out Gonneville in last year's sectionals. Dukette's 72 Wednesday came just short of matching his season-best 71.

"I haven't been playing well this year," Dukette said. "But I have been getting better later in the year."

Gonneville played a tight game up through the 15th hole, shooting 1 over on the back nine, but had three straight bogeys to finish out his round.

Dylan Otis and Jackson Diebold carded a 97 and a 103, respectively, for the Marauders.

Peoples Academy No. 2 golfer Ian Jones led the Wolves with an 82.

Teammates Sean O'Neil shot an 86, Sam Loh an 88 and Cote Trombley a 96. Trombley, who had scored strong for the Wolves all season, struggled on the back nine with a handful of bogeys after shooting a 45 on the front nine.

Jones shot a 42 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine.

Brent Ely led Stowe with an 82 after shooting a 42 on the front nine. Jaren Scrubb followed Ely in scoring for Stowe with an 85.

Sam Merelman shot 93 and Nick Foreman 98 for Stowe, which was missing a player and had to rely on a good round from all four of its players to qualify for the finals.

Rochester's top scorer was Chris Johnson, who shot a 99. Johnson holed a bunker shot on 17.

Billy Vasiliadis shot a 99 to pace Hazen.
