MONTPELIER – "Eleanor Roosevelt" will make an appearance at the Vermont Statehouse on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Elena Dodd will perform as the First Lady and present the program "Eleanor Roosevelt: Advocate for Universal Human Rights." This program is sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council as part of the Vermont Legislature's Farmer's Night Concert Series at the State House. In an informal style, Dodd will focus on Roosevelt's experience with the United Nations Human Rights Commission and the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The first of its kind, the Declaration has remained a crucial statement since its adoption in 1948. Roosevelt describes the struggles to reach consensus among delegates from diverse nations and cultures, and manages to find humor in each difficult situation. She reminds us vividly that human rights and responsibilities begin at home, in the everyday world of human beings.
