    Label the GMOs

I am writing this letter to bring awareness to the community about H.722, the Vermont Right To Know GMO Bill. The aim of this bill is to mandate that food manufacturers be required to label whether or not their consumer goods were produced using ingredients that were genetically engineered.

Personally, I believe that this should not even be an issue as it is our right to know the purity of what we are putting in our bodies. Frankly, it baffles me that the United States is being left in the dust by 50 countries that have already required the disclosure of GMO ingredients. These countries include the European Union, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand.

Yes, you read that right China! Call me na´ve, but I thought we were the innovators. Sadly, the US is resistant to this law even though roughly 90 percent of Americans believe that GE food should in fact be labeled as such. With this labeling, consumers can make the choice as to whether or not they would like to purchase items that contain GMOs.

Perhaps one day, the demand for GMO-free products will be so high that the usage of genetically modified crops will be a thing of the past.
