    Disturbing art

I was at a meeting the other night at the Aldrich Library and took the opportunity to look at the student art displayed. One picture was extremely disturbing and I question both Spaulding High School and Aldrich for displaying it. The drawing was by a 10th-grade student from Spaulding and depicted a dead woman (all that were visible were her hands and feet) lying in a tub with suds high up. Around her ankle was a heavy chain which was bolted to a very detailed hook in the floor.

That this depiction of violence against women by a 10th-grader is given a public showing is detestable. I question both Spaulding for submitting it to the library and Aldrich Library for displaying it. Did neither of these educational entities see anything disturbing about the depiction? It’s a dead woman (no head, no body visible under the suds) chained with a heavy chain bolted to the floor.

Didn’t this raise any red flags?
